Classroom Audio Visual Services (CAVS)

Q. How do I set up an account?
A. Please come to the Audio Visual Services office in Room 1 of the Smith Center basement with a photo ID and your departmental index code. The process takes 5 to 10 minutes.

Q. What is the code for the touch screen in my high technology room?
A. The code is available from the Audio Visual Services office.

Q.  How late are you open?
A.  During the term, the AV office is open from 7am to 10pm Monday through Thursday, 7am to 6pm on Fridays, and 8am to 3pm on Saturdays.  During breaks, our hours vary so please contact the Audio Visual Services office.

Q.  What is your phone number?
A.  The Audio Visual Services office phone number is (503) 725-9100

Q.  Do you deliver equipment?
A.  Deliveries are a rare occurrence for AV Services.  If you cannot pick up your equipment, please contact the Audio Visual Services office and ask to speak to a manager at least 72 hours before your reservation is set to begin.  An alternative to equipment delivery is asking a student to pick up the equipment for you.  If you would like someone else to pickup your equipment, please call the Audio Visual Services office ahead of time and let us know the student's name.

Q.  Can my TA check out equipment in my name?
A.  If you have an account at the Audio Visual Services office you may authorize others to check out equipment in your name.  There are a few mechanisms for doing this: you can contact the Audio Visual Services office and make the reservation for your TA, send down a signed list of students authorized to check out under your name, or have an undergraduate student fill out an Instructor Approval Form.  Be advised that you are still responsible for the equipment checked out in your name whether you are the one who is using the equipment or not.

Q.  Can my Student Group check out equipment?
A.  Yes, you must fill out the Student Development Form and turn it into the Audio Visual Services office.  Please make sure to include your student group index code and have it signed by your student group advisor.

Q.  Is there a charge for checking out equipment?
A.  There is no charge for equipment for classroom use.  However, you may be charged if you check out equipment for an event.  In this case, "event" is a broad term which can include anything from a departmental meeting to a large convention.  A good rule of thumb is, if students can register for it on Banweb, it's a class, if they cannot, it's an event.
